Even when the bread is cut smaller,the bread doesn't fit right. Not only that, it flattens the bread so much that the cheese melts right into the bread. Not so tasty. It takes all your might to pull the top down to latch it in. Very unhappy. Should be larger. I was disappoited with this and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I'll go back to my old way of making grilled cheese in a fry pan. I am sending this back!!!

I had a sandwich maker years ago but left it in the kitchen at work when a bunch of us got laid off. I really didn't use it but got it for coworkers to make hot sandwiches for lunch. So when I saw this one and was ordering other items I thought I would give it a try. Well, I think this product is pretty much worthless. It's so limited as to what you can do with it except to make smashed hot sandwiches that aren't very good. And about the only bread that works in it is plain old white sandwich style. Larger bread is just crushed. If a person is thinking about buying this to make sandwiches don't do it! You're better off getting something like a griddle or a paninni press for sandwiches that takes any size or type of bread.

it's really too small for us...works well but it's more for a single person than a family of 2 or more, IMHO.

I just made my first sandwich in it - grilled cheese. I love the lights and they work great. It cooked the sandwich in under 10 mins and honestly it probably should have been slightly less time. The sandwiches were good but cheese leaked out from under the lid and onto the front and back. Clean up was not difficult at all except for the few crevices that cheese leaked into. These were incredibly difficult to clean and took about half an hour with a toothpick and paper towels. Don't put too much cheese in your sandwiches or be prepared to spend some serious time cleaning it. Still, made a good sandwich and, for the price, I think was a good value.
